Tell me a story of the wondrous creation,

of stars and planets and watching angels,

who bent low to hear the baby's cry.

Tell me a story of a God filled with glory

who left everything to be born in a stable, 

to live in poverty and walk upon dirty roads.

Tell me a story of love and compassion

and the mercy that sits with the woman by the well.

Tell me a story of the healing touch of a robe

and a centurion's faith that made a servant whole.

Tell me a story of thousands fed,

of blind men with sight and the risen dead.
Of storms calmed and lame who could dance.

Tell me a story of the gentleness of a Lord,

who sat, taught and healed,

who sought out the outcasts and broken to be His.

Tell me a story of promises and truth,

where all hurts will be healed and all shall be new.

Tell me a story of rough timbers and nails,

and a Lamb's gift of life over death's travails.
Of an empty tomb and life beyond this shell,

of the opening of heaven and the harrowing of hell.

Tell me that story of eternal love and truth,

of forgiveness and redemption,

so freely given, yet with a cost so deep.

Where are these stories,

why aren't they forever on our lips,
with songs of joy, of peace and gladness.
We have forsaken them so often to battle and dispute,

over which disciple may sit where, 

and to whom what honor is given.

Lord, tell us these stories, these truths again,

that love may grow and grace be present,

lest we become pharisees arguing over new law

with new judgments and new stones.

Oh beloved friends, what stories do you tell? What truths do you live?
