To keep your mind, and spirit, nimble...surround yourself with people who have a wide variety of views. Whether that be on religion, politics, literature, art, etc. Because if you can discuss each other's views without rancor, you can learn from each other.
Thoughtful conversation helps each person who partakes; but if you only surround yourself with views that compliment your own, you live in a bubble-- and miss so much of life. If you can talk of another viewpoint, yet stick with your own beliefs through it- rationally and reasonably, then you know your views are your own, and worth holding onto. If you only hold onto beliefs that are never challenged by those whose esteem you admire, if you never have to defend them or explain them in a friendly yet passionate conversation, how sure are you that they will hold up over time?
Are you engaging, thoughtfully, with those who might challenge your way of thinking? Or taking the safe route which stifles the mind and soul?
