A Lenten Reflection In Whatever You Face

A Lenten Reflection

In Whatever You Face

"Let this encourage those of you who belong to Christ: the storm may be tempestuous, but it is only temporary. The clouds that are temporarily rolling over your head will pass, and then you will have fair weather, an eternal sunshine of glory. Can you not watch with Christ for one hour?"
- William Gurnall

This life has no shortage of sorrows, struggles and disappointments; for it is a fallen world, tainted by the burden and weight of sin.  The Christian journeying forth through this life is not granted an exemption for any struggle, any sorrow, or any strife, for these are merely things that come with living life.

Do not ask why sorrow comes into your life...for did not even Jesus weep?  Do not ask if life shall be fair....for were not the Apostles unjustly accused and jailed?  Do not wonder that the road of life at times will be hard, but instead remember our Lord; who walked the path the Father had set for Him in grace, humility and obedience.

And Christian, remember also that you do not walk the road alone; the Shepherd has not abandoned you, He guides and cares for you.  He has promised never to forsake you, and He has infinite compassion and love for you.  When the storms of life roll over you, He is your lifeline.  When you are afflicted, He is your comfort.  If you are hated for His sake, remember the world hated Him first, and whatever faith may cost you in this short life, recall in assurance that He has secured your salvation and redemption, at great cost to Himself.

When your shoulders are bowed with grief, call out to Him; when you need direction in an ever changing world, seek His guidance in prayer and Scripture. When you are frightened, know that He who made all the worlds, made you and knows you by name.

"On the top of those very billows, which look as if they would overwhelm us, walks the Son of God." - Oswald Chambers

On towards the Cross,
