A Lenten Reflection Letting Go

A Lenten Reflection
Letting Go
Sometimes Lent is about letting go and making more room for God.
With some people, who have put their interests and hobbies ahead of God, it is a good time to reflect, and step back. If people can't see God in you because politics, sports, crafting, your current "cause du jour"...then you have set an idol in front of God, and need to back away. Our message as Christians is not "Jesus + (politics, sports, whatever)....Jesus is enough. His message is complete. His love is overwhelming, and His salvation is sufficient. He needs nothing added to Him...and our interests only cloud the message we're trying to share with the lost.
Some people should reflect and examine their lives to see if a vice or addiction is taking control; not only is it beneficial to your walk with Jesus to back away from those, but it is beneficial to your life as a whole. Let no food, no drink, no chemical, pill or drug control you. Some are born with an addictive nature, and this is a long, hard fight...turn to those whom you love and ask for support. Get help through counseling. This battle can be won.
Sometimes we simply need to slow down our lives...we get so busy, so hurried, so rushed. There is no time, with all our to-do lists and ambitions, to just sit, rest, breathe and spend time in prayer and Scripture with the Lord. But we need that time, friends; we need time just to be. We need time to grow closer to the Lord through His Word, and we need time in communion through prayer.
Is there something in your life that needs to be cut back so there is more room for God?
On towards the Cross,
