Grace, kindness and courtesy are often found lacking in our modern society. We do not pause to hear, much less consider, the people who have a differing opinion than our own. We hurry everywhere, dismissing the small social niceties that make life much more pleasant as "irrelevant" or "old fashioned." We often do not linger to have thoughtful discussions, or to inquire how a friend's spouse, parent or child is doing, because we have to rush to the next thing on our to-do list. And then we wonder why our relationships aren't as rich in depth and texture, why our world has become rude and cold, and why a part of ourselves is diminished.
Stop today, just for a little while. Write or call someone dear to you that you've been too busy to have a meaningful talk with, and make the time for them- and for yourself. Stop and savor a warm beverage (a nice cup of tea, or cocoa?) and notice the world around you. Stop and say a prayer for the folks in the fire and flood zones, for the hungry in our country and around the world, and for all those who feel like they are left on the outside. Stop and give yourself a little time to rest, and recharge...and then go on with your day, spreading grace, kindness and little courtesies as you travel throughout your day.
Be blessed friends, and be a blessing to someone else.
